Mirar atras; soñar, vagar...

Searching for something I still don't know what it is... would it come to me through poetry writing the most heartwrenching poem, through music singing with great sorrow, yearning for an unknown love?

allisongoestoartschool:

These are just some of the dog and puppy photos that I took over the summer for the Stray Animal Adoption Agency (SAAP).

SAAP is an awesome non-profit organization that uses foster homes to rehabilitate animals that have been left in not so good conditions. They have rescued puppies from puppy mills, dogs and cats from death row, and much more.

I took these pictures in hopes that better quality photos of the animals would attract more potential adopters. The dogs were so much fun to photograph, and I definitely wanted to take all of them home!

I have no background in photography…I just have a nice-ish camera and I love puppies. It’s so easy to volunteer!!! If you have any talent at all for photography, web design, pretty much anything, call or email your local no-kill shelter and see what you can do for them! Save ALL the puppies!

Too much cuteness is making my heart beat dangerously slow!!

John Mayer… just got tix to see John Mayer in concert @ IU Auditorium, Indiana University. You don’t get to see/experience such great talent on stage… and it’ll be amazing.

What happened to Michael Vick's dogs... - SI.com - Magazine

PETA wanted Jasmine dead. Not just Jasmine, and not just PETA. The Humane Society of the U.S., agreeing with PETA, took the position that Michael Vick’s pit bulls, like all dogs saved from fight rings, were beyond rehabilitation and that trying to save them was a misappropriation of time and money. “The cruelty they’ve suffered is such that they can’t lead what anyone who loves dogs would consider a normal life,” says PETA spokesman Dan Shannon. “We feel it’s better that they have their suffering ended once and for all.” If you’re a dog and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals suggests you be put down, you’ve got problems. Jasmine has problems.

My profile photo

My profile picture was taken when I was a 19 yrs-old college girl. I had a long way to go to live life then… I still have…

I’m on research leave from my college this year in order to write a book that explores one central question: Do non-human animals grieve?

My answer is yes, they do.

It’s refreshing to answer a scholarly question without equivocation. Most often, I can’t do that. When anthropologists reconstruct how prehistoric peoples lived based on their material artifacts, or theorize about how monkeys and apes think about the world based on their behavior, disclaimers of what we can’t know often crowd out solid answers.

But from a combination of observation, evolutionary logic, reading the peer-reviewed science literature, and talking to insightful animal people, I’m convinced that animals may feel deep grief when another animal dies. Not all species, to be sure; if spiders and snails are ever found to grieve, I’d be the first to express astonishment. But I do mean more than only the usual suspects, more than the apes, elephants and cetaceans.
